Building Works Update

Fraser Coast Regional Council is currently working on essential building remediation and renewal works to ensure that this much-loved cultural asset will be available for our community and visitors to enjoy well into the future.

About the building works

Work on the refurbishment project has started and the gallery is set to re-open in 2022.

The building works include:

  • A new air conditioning and climate control system;
  • Airlocks to ensure the efficiency of the climate control system;
  • A storage area built to national collections standards;
  • Upgraded loading and delivery services and exhibition preparation areas;
  • Two gallery spaces to replace the former Discovery Sphere and theatrette, and;
  • Installation of services to cater for future growth such as a coffee shop or larger retail area.

Background

In late February 2020, the Fraser Coast Cultural Centre (including the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery and Fraser Coast Discovery Sphere) was closed due to a combination of complex building failures.

A level of detailed specialist attention was required to ensure the operational status of the building to meet best practice national standards.

Thank you

We appreciate the patience of the local community and visitors to this area while this project is underway.

Thank you for your continued support.
