Join artist Avi Amesbury for a demonstration and lesson in creating porcelain artworks.

As part of the masterclass weekend, artist Avi Amesbury will demonstrate her processes and how she combines slab, stamping, hand-building, coiling, press mold and slip-casting techniques to make finished a work in porcelain. Participants will prepare slabs, and make work from combining these various techniques. The weekend masterclass with Avi Amesbury is hosted by Gatakers Creative Space in collaboration with Hervey Bay Regional Gallery's Regional Spotlight 2024 exhibition.

Avi collects clays dug up from different parts of the landscape and tests them for their colour response on porcelain. The results become her palette, used to capture the colour nuances of the Australian landscape. The process of collecting is a strong human impulse and Avi uses this process as a way of capturing or holding the essence of a place or landscape that affects our lives. That is, she uses colour as a storytelling device to explore ideas of land, history and connection to place.

All workshop participants will have their porcelain piece kiln fired at Gatakers Artspace, and can collect within the week after the class.
