Free interactive activities for children and families to explore the decorative artform of the ‘grotesque’.

The Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) Children’s Art Centre and Regional Services are delighted to present ‘The Castle of Tarragindi on Tour’ for children and families in regional and remote Queensland.

‘The Castle of Tarragindi on Tour’ has been developed to coincide with the Children’s Art Centre exhibition ‘Natalya Hughes: The Castle of Tarragindi’, on display at GOMA. Australian artist Natalya Hughes creates paintings, textiles, sculptures and installations informed by decorative and ornamental traditions.

In ‘The Castle of Tarragindi on Tour’, Hughes invites children to explore an imaginative design style known as ‘grotesque’ through fun activities. Grotesque artworks often feature hybrid forms, made from parts of different animals, plants and other shapes.
