After Life - Lou Millen
"After Life" is an exhibition that focuses on marine creatures or vessels. As beachcombers, we often discover, embrace and take home. This gives them a second life: an "After Life".
This collarboration of works depicts these objects in their skeletal, elemental or denuded state. The artist does two things: one, enlarge these often minuscule creatures, so as to capture their countles details and two: depict them in macro form to create abstract imagery. By doing so the result is the same, recreating myriad detail, showing the beautiful aesthetics within each object.
Lou's depiction of these 'treasures' are in black and white, to product powerful, bold work that, as an artist, she hopes they are thought proviking for the viewer.
This exhibition was officially opened on Friday 13 January, 2023.
